Cue laugh track: DOJ scolded FBI about ‘policy’ (was that before or after Lynch’s private meeting with Hillary’s husband?) — Sunday open thread

With just over a week to go before the election, we can call what’s going on anything but “boring.” Here’s our weekly open thread for anything on your mind. First off, a few fire starters…

I wrote Friday that James Comey was re-opening (or extending, depending on how you look at it) the Hillary Clinton investigation in light of “new information” that involves one of Huma Abedin’s laptops that was used by Anthony Weiner. After that I spent several hours in a delousing tent.

First off, Loretta Lynch has no self awareness — zero, zilch:

Senior Justice Department officials warned the FBI that Director James B. Comey’s decision to notify Congress about renewing the investigation into Hillary Clinton’s private email server was not consistent with long-standing practices of the department, according to officials familiar with the discussions.
[…]
Justice officials reminded the FBI of the department’s position “that we don’t comment on an ongoing investigation. And we don’t take steps that will be viewed as influencing an election,” said one Justice Department official who spoke on the condition of anonymity to describe the high-level conversations.

I haven’t laughed this hard since the last time Joe Biden said something:

So that was consistent with long-standing DOJ ethical practices? If “long-standing” means “since Obama’s been president,” the answer is “yes.”

Remember when Lynch said she’d accept whatever recommendations Comey and career prosecutors made? Good times.

Dems have really changed their attitude about James Comey. Just a couple examples…

Sen. Dianne Feinstein also has a “love/hate” relationship with Comey:

Rep. Elijah Cummings speaking to Comey just over three months ago:

“I don’t know whether your family’s watching this, but I hope that they are as proud of you as I am, because you are the epitome of what a public servant is all about. Sacrificing over and over and over again, trying to do the right thing, sometimes coming under ridicule, but again still doing the right thing,” Cummings said.

Cummings (and a House colleague) after the latest FBI twist:

So much for complete deference to Comey’s integrity.

Read a lot more examples here.

The level of shamelessness here could make even the worst sociopaths shake their heads in disbelief:

Hillary Clinton has called on the FBI to release all the information it has in relation to the newly discovered emails that prompted the bureau’s latest review of the private server she used while she was secretary of state.

“We are 11 days out from perhaps the most important election of our lifetimes,” Clinton said in a press conference in Des Moines, Iowa. “… So the American people deserve to get the full and complete facts immediately.”

The Clinton campaign released its usual statement:

Clinton is asking Americans not to wait and to get out and vote RIGHT NOW:

Gee, I wonder why.

Hillary might have a problem in Florida. Some polls show her up a point (or two) in the Sunshine State but others, like this NYT poll, have Trump up, and these polls were taken before the Comey/Clinton/Weiner news:

At least now we have a whole bunch of answers to Hillary’s classic election question:

Have a good Sunday all!
