Before departing on his final World Apology Tour Monday night, President Obama prepped the country for Donald Trump and challenged the incoming administration to meet the high standards they’ve set (not counting the FBI investigations, Attorney General found in contempt of Congress, etc.):

President Obama said Americans had to “reconcile themselves” to the Trump presidency, and — in a surprising turnabout from his pre-election rhetoric — spoke optimistically about the president-elect’s ability to govern.

Answering questions from reporters for the first time since voters handed the White House over to a candidate who promised to dismantle his agenda, Obama also pledged Monday to give President-elect Donald Trump the space he needs to put together a new government.

Obama said his White House team should be proud of what they’ve accomplished. “We’ve already ensured that when we turn over the keys, the car is in pretty good shape. We are indisputably in a better position now than we were when I came in eight years ago,” Obama said, running through his usual litany of accomplishments including the auto bailout, job growth and health care costs.

But he also added one that he doesn’t often boast of: “I am very proud of the fact that we will, knock on wood, exit this administration without significant scandal.” While he admitted that there have been “screw ups” in the federal government, he said the federal government acts more ethically than in the past.

You know, that’s exactly what Loretta Lynch told the husband of the presidential candidate under investigation when she met with him on an airport tarmac.

The first thing that occurred to me when Lois Lerner was pleading the Fifth before a House committee was, “damn, this is one scandal-free administration!”
