A couple days ago, the Washington Post editorial board published what was tantamount to a long-form application to head up Hillary’s WH press office if she’s elected president.
Here’s the conclusion:
Ms. Clinton is hardly blameless. She treated the public’s interest in sound record-keeping cavalierly. A small amount of classified material also moved across her private server. But it was not obviously marked as such, and there is still no evidence that national security was harmed. Ms. Clinton has also admitted that using the personal server was a mistake. The story has vastly exceeded the boundaries of the facts.
Imagine how history would judge today’s Americans if, looking back at this election, the record showed that voters empowered a dangerous man because of . . . a minor email scandal. There is no equivalence between Ms. Clinton’s wrongs and Mr. Trump’s manifest unfitness for office.
The “sure, she was driving 100 mph through a school zone but didn’t hit anybody so all is well” excuse has worn as thin as the air way above the law where the Clinton’s reside.
But the Post will win some points from the Left for sticking close to the script. Here’s Democrat Rep. Elijah Cummings at the James Comey hearing:
Rep. Elijah Cummings of Maryland, the committee’s top Democrat, supported Mr. Comey’s assertion that others in Mrs. Clinton’s position wouldn’t have been prosecuted, lacking evidence of a willful intent to violate the law.
“If prosecutors had gone forward, they would have been holding the secretary to a different standard from everyone else,” Mr. Cummings said.
WaPo editorial board a couple months later:
In fact, Ms. Clinton’s emails have endured much more scrutiny than an ordinary person’s would have, and the criminal case against her was so thin that charging her would have been to treat her very differently.
An “ordinary person” working in government who handled matters like Hillary did would be in jail right now.
Bob Woodward said recently that Hillary’s deleted emails rang familiar. But if the 37th president were around these days (and a Democrat) the Post’s story would be, “Sure, Nixon said he erased 18 minutes of tape, but only because it contained boring yoga routine discussions with Henry Kissinger and phone calls with Tricia’s wedding coordinator, so it’s time to move on.”
